Together Again!
After two years of having the pandemic alter or cancel programs, in Summer 2022 we witnessed the joyous reunion of campers and coaches, the gathering of old friends and new ones. Physical activity, friendship, laughter and fun were back!
Over 4 weeks, Bustin’ Barriers offered two daily camp sessions, based upon age. Volunteer coaches encouraged and supported campers and were equally awed by campers’ sense of fun and enthusiasm. Whether walking, running or awesomely maneuvering a power-chair, campers were in the game. And when it got hot, fans made the gym the place to be or you could be outside where misters were misting and water games made everyone laugh … and cool. Over 90 camp slots were filled this past summer with volunteer coaches providing 1,099 hours of service and fun.
But the fun didn’t end with Week 4 of camp. Hardly! For high-schoolers and transition program campers, there was also the 1st Annual End of Summer Dance. Coaches, campers and teens experiencing disability who learned of the dance on Bustin Barriers website, dressed up, had refreshments and came to party in a chaperoned environment. This was just the first dance … There will be more to come.
Many thanks to Holy Family School and Principal Joe Galati who provided the venue for camp and the dance party. We are most appreciative.
